Getting to know me...
Official retired since 2021, I have been expanding my musical experiences - adding more compositions to my Reflections project, drumming for two groups, pianist with a big band to name a few - 2023 has been a productive year so far.
My compilation of songs for my Reflections projects, is shaping up to be a diverse set of songs that reflect the grooves that move me.
So how did I get here?
Born in Chibougamau, Quebec, I spent my childhood moving across Canada with my family settling down in Gatineau. My early years were spent studying science in school and classical piano through private lessons, competing in music competitions, playing the organ for mass, weddings and funerals, and teaching piano. With a formal background in classical piano and voice, and several years of workshops, music camps and masterclasses, I have been following my muse for over 25 years as a singer, musician, choral director and concert producer.
In 1995, while studying classical voice, a chance last-minute audition led to 13 years performing french operettas with the Théâtre lyrique de Hull – my love for performing was sparked! And while I loved singing classical music, I could not deny that groove fuels my soul.
In 2007, I was doubly blessed to follow my R&B muse singing with Big Band Caravane and Slippery Slope (a Motown cover band). So many memorable moments but one special afternoon is etched in my memory – Mother’s Day 2007 performing with Big Band Caravane for the special exhibition - War Brides: Portraits of an Era - at the Canadian War Museum. Being in the midst of nearly 300 war brides singing along and dancing to war-time favorites was so moving - a once in a life-time experience.
In 2009, when the two bands folded, I turned my attention to jazz and widened my music circle through a series of workshops and Jazzworks music camps.
In 2012, I recorded my first CD - check it out... In the Studio…At Last
2013 stands out for sure – a foray into choral direction (latest adventure with Chorale Gospel Outaouais) and the launch of the next chapter of my music career. Performing to a sold-out crowd, my first solo show, Shades of Jazz paved the way to 13 more shows, countless gigs and jamming in venues throughout the National Capital Region.
Without a doubt, music has always been a big part of my life and beyond performing, my creativity would express itself in other ways, sitting at the piano noodling on the keys to relax or composing original lyrics to well-known songs for special events.
In 2017, after honing my craft as a performer and musician, I made the leap and signed up for Ottawa Singer/Songwriter Camp and Ottawa Jazzworks Composer Symposium. And here I am in 2023, still going strong on my journey! Won't you come along?

“Better Than Anything” […] she negotiated all its classic jazz references with ease, giving it a sophisticated rendition. “Minor Chant” […] she added lyrics about love and happiness […] introduced it with scatting and added her own vocal (and impressively-realistic) trumpet solo partway through. The audience responded with strong applause.
“Comme ci, comme ça” […] was a memorable number in which her upbeat vocals were well matched by [Kevin] Barrett's complex guitar riffs, and was highly appreciated by the audience.

Que dire de moi?
Officiellement à la retraite depuis 2021, j'ai élargi mes expériences musicales depuis - ajoutant plus de compositions à mon projet Reflections, jouant de la batterie pour deux groupes, pianiste avec un big band pour n'en nommer que quelques-uns - 2023 a été une année productive jusqu'à présent.
Ma compilation de chansons pour mon projet Reflections evolue et devient un ensemble diversifié de chansons qui reflètent les grooves qui me touchent.
Alors, comment suis-je arrivée ici?
Née à Chibougamau, au Québec, j'ai passé mon enfance à parcourir le Canada avec ma famille qui s'est établie à Gatineau. Mes premières années ont été consacrées à l’étude des sciences à l’école et au piano classique en privé, en prenant des cours particuliers, en participant à des concours de musique, en jouant de l’orgue pour la messe, des mariages et des funérailles et en enseignant le piano. Avec une formation en piano classique et en chant, et plusieurs années d'ateliers, de camps de musique et de classes de maître, je suis ma passion depuis plus de 25 ans en tant que chanteuse, musicienne, directrice de chorale et productrice de concerts.
En 1995, alors que j’étudiais la voix classique, une audition de dernière minute m'a conduit vers 13 ans à jouer des opérettes françaises avec le Théâtre lyrique de Hull - mon amour pour la scène a été suscité! Et même si j'aimais chanter de la musique classique, je ne pouvais pas nier que le groove alimentait mon âme.
En 2007, j'ai eu la double chance de suivre ma muse R & B en chantant avec le Big Band Caravane et Slippery Slope (un groupe de reprises de Motown). Tant de moments mémorables, mais un après-midi spécial est gravé dans ma mémoire - La fête des mères 2007 avec le Big Band Caravane pour l’exposition spéciale «Épouses de guerre: Portraits d’une époque» au Musée canadien de la guerre. Être au milieu de près de 300 épouses de guerre, chanter et danser avec leurs chansons favoris de la guerre était si émouvante - une expérience unique dans ma vie.
En 2009, lorsque les deux groupes ont pris leur «retraites», je me suis tournée vers le jazz et j'ai élargi mon cercle de musique grâce à une série d'ateliers et de camps de musique Jazzworks.

L'année 2013 se démarque à coup sûr - une incursion dans la direction de choeur (dernièrement avec la Chorale Gospel Outaouais) et le lancement du prochain chapitre de ma carrière musicale. Mon premier concert solo, Shades of Jazz, a ouvert la voie à 13 autres concerts, à d'innombrables prestations et des sessions de «jam» à travers la région de la capitale nationale.
Sans aucun doute, la musique a toujours occupé une grande place dans ma vie et au-delà de l'interprétation, ma créativité s'exprimait autrement, assise au piano, jouant pour la détente ou composant des paroles originales de chansons connues pour des événements spéciaux.
En 2017, après avoir perfectionné mon art en tant qu'interprète et musicienne, j'ai franchi le pas et je me suis inscrite au symposium «Ottawa Singer/Songwriter Camp» et au «Ottawa Jazzworks Composer Series». Et me voilà en 2023 encore sur le le voyage! Vous voulez le faire avec moi?
